Music to my ears!

Yesterday I was busy picking up the house and getting some chores done when I heard the sweetest "music". Sweet Girl and Little boy were playing together - I don't think they were doing anything special but I couldn't help but think about all the times I wished Sweet girl had a sibling. They are very sweet together and he adores her and she is a great big sister. There is so much joy in the little things! There favorite thing to play is hide-and-seek. She hides in the same exact place and he squeals everytime he finds her in that one spot.

The thing about bluebonnets...

For those of you who aren't from Texas it might help to know that bluebonnets are the Texas state flower and in the spring you will see huge carpets of blue in the fields where they are growing. It is "the thing to do" to take your pictures in the bluebonnets. The problem is everytime I take the kids out to get their pictures in them I get this kind of a face from Sweet girl!

Once we climb throught the itchy grass and flowers to the selected spot she doesn't want to sit because its itchy or muddy and she makes a "why are you making me do this" face and looks so uncomfortable so years from now when she is lookign through the scrap book and wants to know why I put this picture in the book I will tell her because her face is so descriptive and it makes me laugh!

Little boy on the other hand didn't seem to mind so much but then I didn't make him sit in it either! (It helps that Daddy was making goofy faces at him.)

* As a disclaimer we only picked one bluebonnet and I think we were on state property so don't turn us in! Sweet girl was very worried we would go to jail for picking a bluebonnet!

I have failed but will keep trying!

I have failed to teach my sweet daughter how to clean her room! Maybe you have to be born an organizer and a cleaner? She was born a hoarder. Some days I just want to go in there and clean it and purge all the "party favors" and excess toys with missing parts. However, I know that doesn't help her learn to clean. So instead I have to spend the whole time in her room directing her to piles of stuff, prodding her to either throw away or keep. I know this is fascinating blogging right? The life and time of moms everywhere.

I love being a mom!

I really love being a mom! Everyday is not perfect of course but over all I'd say its the most fun job I've ever had. Little boy fills up my day with lots of cuddles and smiles and Sweet girl has so much to say everyday and the way her mind works amazes me sometimes. Sweet girl is about to turn 8 in a couple of weeks and I think I enjoy the kids birtdays more than my own! Maybe because its not as much fun to turn thirty something as it is when your a kid. We have been telling her for a couple of years that she had to wait until she was 8 to get her ears pierced so she has been counting down for the last few months. Sunday we were discussing the where and when and even though she knows it will hurt she isn't backing down. Its funny she can be so scared of new unknown things (not unlike myself) but when she sets her mind on something there is no turning back. The trick is getting her to set her mind on the right things!
I can't believe she is about to turn 8! I want to stop the clock or at least slow it down for a while because the older she gets the less I know what to do and the more challenging the growing up issues. When I first met her she was just a tiny little thing who could barely string together a sentence! Jeff and I were dating when she turned 2 and I gave her this book called "Where is spot?" with little flaps you lift to see if spot the dog was underneath. We must have read that book a million times! Now she is reading chapter books to me at night and I am truly amazed at the girl she is becoming.
Now I should end this because I'm becoming all weepy and nostalgic - must be the pregnancy hormones.

still not crawling

So little boy is still not crawling but that is ok I've decided! He is getting around pretty good pulling himself along on his stomach by his arms. Since Daddy is home I'm letting him chase him around today. ( I really need to get rid of my plant stand.) His new favorite place to go is the dog dishes and grab handfulls of dog food and then dump the water on himself. I'm usually quick enough to grab him before he can do both but poor Maddie just stands there looking at him like "what are you doing, that is my food!" We are enjoying every minute of this baby!

We have the worst tooth fairy!

Sweet girl lost another tooth last night (that makes 8 all together). She faithfully put it in her little pillow and said "I hope she doesn't forget again!" You see our tooth fairy is very unreliable- she has forgetten at least three other times to come get the tooth. Once she even forgot two nights in a row and we had to call her and threaten to fire her if she didn't come that night. So last night I was sure the tooth fairy would remember but... she must have fallen asleep on the couch or something because she forgot! I told sweet girl maybe she got up too early and the tooth fairy hadn't come yet because it was such a busy night and maybe she would come and get the tooth while she was at school. To be honest, I am getting tired of making excuses for the tooth fairy! Why can't she just remember! Maybe I should start writing her notes or tying a string around her finger. Any suggestions? (BTW Sweet girl is starting to look like a jack-o-lantern- she keep losing teeth and not growing any new ones in!)

Okay, okay , Jeff wins!

According to the poll taking last week it wasn't even close... I guess spiked hair it is. Of course only 6 people participated so I could say it was not an accurate poll but I'm a little sick of looking at polling results during this season if you know what I mean.

First Birthday

Before the cake.

After the cake (He ate the whole thing in record time!)
One year ago today we were in the hospital looking down on our tiny 3lb. 16 inch son all hooked up to tubes and lines dying to just hold him. It wasn't at all what I pictured his birthday being like! I was weak from the c-section and could barely stand next to the isolette holding his little hand and crying over him. But... God gave us the strength to get through the first two months in the hospital and he had very few problems or set backs. He grew stronger and bigger and now he is a healthy strong one year old who I treasure all day (and night) long. He seems to learn something new all the time and makes his sister, Daddy and Mommy laugh all the time. Happy Birthday I.!
